James Robert (Bob) McCollum, 89, of Daytona Beach, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2013 at Emory L. Bennett Veteran's Nursing Home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born April 8, 1924 in Miami, FL, son of the late James Wilbur and Emma Lane (Robertson) McCollum. Bob was a World War II veteran, serving as a communications specialist in the U.S. Army in England, France, Germany and Austria. He was a firm believer that he survived the war based on his mother's prayers. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Bob attended the University of Florida studying Forestry, Insurance and Real Estate. Bob is a past commander (1992-1993) and Lifetime Member of VFW Post #1590 as well as Lifetime Member of DAV Chapter #84. Bob had the 'gift of gab' and used that to his advantage throughout his career in sales. Most recently he was working at Lighthouse Point Park, Ponce Inlet, near the ocean which he loved. Bob is survived by his brother Don McCollum, Pensacola; daughters, Casey L. Brown (Craig), Daytona Beach, Erin E. Singer (Brian), Jupiter; and grandchildren, Canyon, Ciara and Ella. Bob will be remembered as a peaceful, spirited, friendly, generous and humble gentleman, loyal brother, engaged father, and loving grandfather. No services are planned.
