John M. Hoyt, Jr., 95, Edgewater, died Monday, June 4, 2018 at Brookdale West, Ormond Beach. John was born in Cornwall, Vermont and had been an area resident since 1986, coming from Key West. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era, retiring as a Master Chief Aircraft Maintenanceman with 26 years of service. After his Navy retirement, he worked as a Bulk Mail Manager for the U. S. Postal Service in Key West for 15 years. He was a former member of the Edgewater Shuffleboard Club, the Florida Shores Property Owners Association, Edgewater and First Presbyterian Church, New Smyrna Beach. He is survived by his step daughter, Barbara C. (Robert) Sawyer of Harpswell, Maine and two step grandchildren, Barbara L. Sawyer of Milton, Vermont and Robert P. (Jenn) Sawyer of Spencer, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his wife, Huerta Jenke Hoyt in 1999. Visitation will be from 5PM until 8 PM Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the Dudley Edgewater Chapel, 433 N. Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater. Graveside funeral service will be 10 AM Friday, June 15, 2018 in the Veterans Field of Honor at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater with Rev. Raphael Camilo, VITAS Hospice chaplain, officiating. Military honors will follow by members of American Legion Post #285, Edgewater. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VITAS Hospice Care, 2381 Mason Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
