John P. Wentzel, 90, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on October 2, 2018, at Florida Hospital Flagler. John was born March 24, 1928, in Reading, PA, to the late John Milton and Catherine (Hartman) Wentzel. He attended Reading High School, and then served in the US Army from 1946 to 1949. He worked in the wholesale tobacco and candy distribution business for many years, lastly as a purchasing agent for Park Jensen Company, retiring in 1984. During his retirement years he enjoyed boating, fishing and gardening, and extensive work in his genealogy research. John was preceded in death by his wife Anne, and sisters, Catherine and Mary Jane. He is survived by his son, Paul Wentzel of Palm Coast, FL, and daughter Carol (Gary) Shepherd of Port Orange, FL, sister Dorothy Smith, and brothers Charles Wentzel and Robert (Jean) Wentzel, all of Reading, PA. John is also the loving grandfather of Ashley (Chanan) Smith and John M. (Sarah) Wentzel, step grandfather of Jordan Shepherd and Joy Shepherd, and great grandfather of Dean Wentzel. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast, 220 Palm Coast Parkway SW, Palm Coast, Florida at 11:00 Tuesday, October 9 (visitation from 10:30 to 11:00).
There will also be a service held at the Lutz Funeral Home, 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA on Wednesday, October 24, at 11:00 (visitation from 10:00to 11:00). Donations in John's name may be made to SEAS School, Anne P. Wentzel Scholarship Fund, sent to: St Elizabeth Ann Seton School, 4600 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast, FL 32164.
