A celebration of life for John W. Amatucci, who passed away on Monday, June 23, 2008 at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial, will be 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., (an hour) prior to the service. Mr. Amatucci was born in Salem, Massachusetts to the late, Thomas and Theresa Amatucci. He was a 1941, graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Springs, Maryland and then went to Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania where he graduated with a bachelor's degree. He entered the Army Air Force in 1944 as a bomber and navigator with the rank of Lieutenant. After his honorable discharge, he became owner and president of Tom's Chevrolet in Wheaton, Maryland. He also served as president of Wheaton Chamber of Commerce and the Wheaton Kiwanis Club. In 1960, he managed John F. Kennedy's campaign for Montgomery County, Maryland. Mr. Amatucci became the first Chairman of the Board of Metropolitan Bank in Wheaton, MD. Upon retirement as a Chevrolet Dealer, he moved to Ormond Beach, Fla. in 1980 and shortly thereafter opened the John D. Lounge in the old Ormond Hotel. When the hotel closed, he eventually returned to the car business and proudly becoming Jon Hall's Salesman-of-the-Year, for several years. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife, Connie; daughter, Gina Amatucci; step-children, Marci Edmiston and Mike Edmiston; grandson, Chase Edmiston.
