Joyce Marion Marshall
07/25/1938 - 07/04/2018
Joyce Marion Marshall, of DeBary, FL, passed away on July 4th and is now with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Long Branch, NJ on July 25th, 1938, and was the fifth child of John and Beatrice Gilmore. Residing in Red Bank, NJ she attended the local schools and was always an outstanding student, culminating with serving as a former president of Red Bank High School's National Honor Society. Upon graduation from Red Bank High in 1956, she matriculated as a scholarship student at Jersey City Hospital School of Nursing in New Jersey graduating with honors in 1959. Her professional career covered many fields of nursing: Coronary Care, Med-Surg, Recovery Room, and Infection Control. As an advocate for employees' rights, she became the Employee Relations Manager for Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, serving in that position also at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Joyce was a congregant of St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Asbury Park, NJ. There, she became a member of the Vestry. Upon retirement, she and her husband Thomas of 57+ years, relocated from their home in Freehold Township, NJ to several locations in Florida, finally settling in DeBary. She continued to be involved in the church—St. James Episcopal and St. Peter's Episcopal—and willingly served others as a volunteer at Hope Hospice. Her membership in the Ocean Drifters and the Business and Professional Women's Clubs respectively, was a commitment to serving others in the community through a variety of projects, in addition to having many fun activities. Joyce is survived by her loving husband and children Thomas Jr. (Debbie) of Chicago, IL; Kelly Williams (Rodney) of Toms River, NJ; Ben (Lynn) of Red Bank, NJ; and Susan of Deland, FL; her sisters Jean Wilson of Neptune, NJ, Beverly Robinson of Peoria, AZ, and Ruth Wright of Red Bank, NJ, cousins Alma Penn and Stephanie Robinson, nine grandchildren, and a great grandson, as well as 28 nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her brothers John and Harold, and sister Elaine, her parents John and Beatrice, and several nieces and nephews from both sides of her family. Retiring to Florida presented many adjustments and challenges for Joyce, both socially and culturally. She was instrumental in forming a new social organization for former New Jerseyans—"New Jersey Peeps and Friends"—and she continued her service to family, new friends, her community, and her church. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018, 11:00am at Baldauff Family Funeral Home, 1233 Saxon Boulevard, Orange City, Fl 32763.
