Lawrence John Hubbard, Jr. 86, born Jan. 4, 1927 passed away Jan. 5, 2013. L.J., as everyone knew him by, was a wonderful Husband, Father, Papa and Great-Papa. He was a true Volusian born and raised in Lake Helen, from one of the first families of Lake Helen. And even though he joined the Marines and traveled around, Lake Helen was his home. In 1986 he bought his father's homestead and lived in his birthplace for the next 27 years. L. J. was and always was a Marine serving his country for 25 years, including WWII, China, Korean Conflict and Viet Nam, Simper Fi. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy V. Hubbard and this past Dec. 17, 2012 they celebrated 65 wonderful years together. He has four children, Carolyn Hubbard Lemar of Lake Helen, FL, Lawrence John Hubbard, III (Larry) and his wife Marcia of Solomon, Maryland, Mary-Lynn Hubbard Boylan and her husband Paul of DeLand, FL and Allen Joseph Hubbard of Blacksburg, VA. He has six grandchildren, Walter Wayne Monroe, Jr., Craig Anthony Monroe, Christopher Allen Monroe, Catherine Renee Henry, Robert Charles Faron, Jr. and Danielle Marie Derosia. He has four great-grandchildren, Sarah Ellen Fisher, Hunter Leigh Monroe, Tristan Evan Derosia and Erica Ann Derosia. He was a great outdoorsman. Fishing, hunting and gardening was his passion, but his family always came first. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 8th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 9th at 10am at the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand. Interment will follow at the Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery.
