Loretta May (nee Monty) Snyder, 92, of Port Orange passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, April 5, 2013. She was born to George and Florence Monty on Feb. 3, 1921, in Baltimore, MD and later grew up in the Philadelphia area. She met her husband Harold Snyder through her brother-in-law Edward and they were married for well over 50 years. During World War II she worked at a factory that made airplanes and was nicknamed as "Rosie the Riveter" and she was the first "to make the grade"! She enjoyed her regular Friday hair appointments, eating out with friends and family and shopping. Loretta was a devout Jehovah's Witness for well over 40 years and loved her witnessing work. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brother Edward Monty, Evelyn Carney and her devoted husband Harold Snyder. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Van Etten of Bradenton, FL., daughter, Debbie Beam and Gail Gatley of Port Orange and a stepdaughter Lynda Patterson of Stuarts Drafts, Virginia. Also survived by her are her grandchildren Carly Beam, Port Orange, FL, Amy Beam, Brandon, FL, Nicholas Chmielarski of Sarasota, FL, Sandra Chmielarski of Port Orange, FL and Christie Benishek of New Smyrna Beach, FL. Also a step-granddaughter Heidi Tandatnick of the greater Tampa area and James and Richard Gatley of Tacoma, WA. She also had three great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. A memorial service to Celebrate her Life will be held this Saturday, April 13 at 6:30pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 740 County Road 415, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. Officiated by Brother Bill Ruzycky. An announcement will be made after the service on the location where the family will be receiving guest. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Port Orange.
