Lydia Beckers Hickman, 74, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed away July 19, 2012 from compli-cations due to a fractured hip. Lydia was born in Brooklyn, NY October 30, 1937 and attended The Cortelyou School PS139, Erasmus Hall HS and the Flatbush-Tompkins Congregational Church School in Brooklyn, NY. She had a 35-year career at Mutual of NY (MONY) beginning in 1955 in Manhattan. In 1974, she transferred to the Syracuse office and resided in Baldwinsville, NY. She was married to William Hickman from 1979 to 1988. She retired in 1989 and moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida in 1992. She was a board member of the Pine Island Home Owners Association from 1993-2008, wrote the P.I. Newsletter for 16 years, and was a member of the P.I. Ladies Club. She loved laughing, boating, cats, clocks and talking with people. She is survived by 12 cousins, Kathy Kennedy, Tucson, AZ; Eileen Parker Westbury, NY; Geri Neely, Venice, FL; Kevin Neely, Patti Holmes, and Patricia Frohnhofer, Merrick, NY; George Gillan, Rockville Centre, NY; Gene Gillan, Henrietta, NY; Kevin Gillan, Massapequa, NY; Barbara Ann Turner, East Northport, NY; Bobby Gillan; Massapequa, NY, Michael Gillan; as well as two stepsons, Ben and Keith Hickman. A memorial will be held Aug. 11th; 4-6 PM at the Pine Island Gazebo, 719 Pine Shores Circle, NSB. In lieu of flowers, she would love you to contribute to the National Wildlife Federation.
