Margaret Isabella Smith McBride, 83, passed away August 6, 2012 in her hometown of Jacksonville, FL. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Harry George Thompson, Sr. and Mrs. Loretta P. Thompson and was raised and educated in Daytona Beach, FL, having graduated from Daytona Beach Community College (aka) Daytona State College. She was a retired Volusia County Schools Cafeteria Manager. At a young age she joined and for many years was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Later she moved her membership to New Life Ministries where she was a faithful member until her health failed her from attending. Mother McBride enjoyed cooking, watching sports on TV and "garage shopping" with Margaret Waters. She loved teaching others how to garage shop, too.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James McBride, Sr.; both parents; and her brother, Harry Thompson, Jr. Cherishing her memory are five daughters, Evangelist Lanita (John) Gadson, Marvine Poole, Joyce Thompson all of Jacksonville, FL, Olivia Vanessa (Rev. Maurice) Lloyd and Harriett Michelle McBride, both of Daytona Beach; six sons, Alfred (Linda) Smith, St. Louis, MO, Howard Smith, Port Charlotte, FL, Gary (Elaine) Smith, Walter Smith, James McBride, Jr. and Harold McBride, all of Daytona Beach, FL; one brother, Herbert (Dorothy) Thompson; step-sister, Hazel Cummings, Daytona Beach, FL; sisters-in-law, Johnny Mae McBride, Daytona Beach, Sammie Jean Daughtrey , Atlanta, GA, Georgia Harris, Tampa, and Joyce (Clarence) Thomas, Jacksonville, FL; 35 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one great-great-great grandchild; cousin, Arthur Massengale; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; few of her devoted friends, Larry Johnny, Dr. Robert Williams and Mrs. Christine. The wake will be Friday, August 17, 2012 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at New Life Church Ministries. The funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 18, 2012 at New Life Church Ministries, Rev. Dr. Victor E. Gooden, pastor, delivering the eulogy. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Herbert Thompson Funeral Home.
