Martin O'Brien, age 93, died peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2018. He was born on November 14, 1924 in County Clare, Ireland, the son of Michael and Mary Brady O'Brien. He served in the British Royal Air Force during the closing years of World War II, stationed in Bombay, India. After making his home in America, he made his career with the New York City Transit Authority, retiring as a Superintendent of Maintenance in the New York City Subway system. After retiring in 1987, he moved to Florida, where he met his wife Ethel. They enjoyed 26 years of cruising the Caribbean, Ballroom dancing at the Ormond Beach Senior Center and the Moose and Eagles Fraternal Orders. He was a member of St. Brendan Church in Ormond Beach. He is survived by his wife Ethel, whom he married in 1992, son Paul (Olga) O'Brien of Fuquay Varina, N.C., and daughters Maureen O'Brien Reel of Marion, N.C., Joanie (Michael) Foran of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Carolyn O'Brien Sutton of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., a brother Tom O'Brien of Dumont N.J. three stepchildren and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They resided at Bishops Glen in Holly Hill for the last six years. He passed away at the Halifax Hospice Care Center in Ormond Beach. He received excellent care from both facilities and his family wishes to express their appreciation to both. There will be a family service in the Chapel at Bishops Glen at 1:30 on Thursday, Feb. 8.
