Michael D. Kerney, 58, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died June 19, 2013, on his dream trip to Alaska. Mike was born in Decatur, Ill., and married Linda (Purvis) Kerney of Daytona Beach in June 1975. They have two children, Melissa (Shane) Umbarger of Greensboro, N.C., and Michael W. (Grace) Kerney of Port Orange. A police officer with the Daytona Beach Police Department for 38 years, he was records supervisor and resource manager when he retired last year. He is also survived by his brother James Kerney of North Carolina; his sisters, Debra Doyle of Daytona Beach and Sue Kerney Earnhardt of North Carolina; his three grandkids; and his mother-in-law. He was preceded in death by parents Harley and Joan Kerney and brother David Kerney. A public memorial will be at the DBPD (129 Valor Blvd) on Friday, June 28, at 6:30 p.m.
