Muriel S. Rosa, 93, of New Smyrna Beach, a science teacher at the New Smyrna Beach Junior High School and Middle School for 18 years before her retirement in 1984, died Friday, June 21, 2013. Mrs. Rosa was born in Boston, MA and moved to the area in 1950 from Long Island, NY. She served as a registered nurse in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked as an Operating Room Nurse at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach. She was a member of Community Unitarian Universalist Church, New Smyrna Beach; League of Women Voters; Retired Teachers Association of Volusia County, Bert Fish Medical Center Auxiliary and the Friends of the Library at New Smyrna Beach Regional Library. After her retirement, she traveled throughout Europe, parts of Canada and the United States. She enjoyed acrylic painting, gardening and was an avid reader. She is survived by one son, Ted C. Rosa of New Smyrna Beach; one daughter, Libby Hilderbrandt of South Daytona; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael S. Rosa and a sister, Priscilla Cady. Memorial service will be 11 AM Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Dudley Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach, with Rev. Mark Spivey, officiating. Cremation will be by Dudley Crematory, New Smyrna Beach.
