Nancy Cochrane Ashley, 86, of New Smyrna Beach, died Saturday, April 2, 2011 with her family by her side. Nancy was born May 14, 1924 in Indianapolis, IN. She graduated from Shortridge High School and Butler University, Indianapolis, IN where she received her Bachelor and Master degree in Education. She taught elementary education in the Indianapolis public school system for many years. Nancy married the love of her life, Frederick L. Ashley, on July 7, 1956. She took great pleasure and honor as she became a homemaker to raise her two children. As a mother she enjoyed arranging educational vacations for the family and traveling for the fun of it. She enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader. Nancy was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Indianapolis Junior League, Fifth Church of Christ Science, Indianapolis, IN and a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. She and her husband moved to New Smyrna Beach in November 1985. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick L. Ashley. She is survived by her devoted children, Ann and her husband, Joe Nicholas of Atlanta, GA and F. Lee and his wife, Missy Ashley of Augusta, GA; two cherished grandchildren, Courtney (Thomas) Wilson and Tripp Ashley; two adored great- grandchildren, Emma and Devon; three nieces and one nephew.
