Nell was born in New Smyrna, FL, the youngest child of Joseph C. and Nellie McCormick Hill. She graduated from New Smyrna High School in 1938 and always talked fondly about her family, friends and the fun times she had growing up. She was the Medical Secretary to the Commanding Officer at the Dale Mabry Air Field Hospital in Tallahassee and later at the Army Medical Corp Hospital at Daytona Beach during WWII. Nell met her husband, Robert Kerkhoff in Daytona Beach where he was a radar officer at the Daytona Beach Naval Air Station. She and Bob were married in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on February 11, 1946. She lived 30 years of her life in Natchez, Mississippi where she raised her three daughters and was active with the American Red Cross, Natchez Garden Club, one of the clubs organizing the annual Natchez Pilgrimage of the antebellum homes. She and Bob returned to Daytona in 1980 to enjoy their retirement years with family and friends. Survivors include three daughters, Jonell Kerkhoff (Neal) Dando, Pittsburgh, PA, Sharon H. (James) Morris, Chicago, IL, and Barbara K. (Scott) Semple, Rockville, MD; and six grandchildren, Kerrick and Adam Dando, Bryan and Sean Morris, and Laura and Kelley Semple. Nell was a truly wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to many in the Daytona Beach community. Her family will greatly miss her smile, kindness and warm words of unwavering support. The family suggests that donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, P.O. Box 729, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32170. Condolences may be made at: www.settlewilderfuneralhome.com
