Dr. Philip Clayton Kincaid Sr.

Dr. Philip Clayton Kincaid Sr., 70, a retired Daytona Beach police lieutenant and former college instructor, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Halifax Medical Center. Dr. Kincaid, a native of Zanesville, Ohio, moved to the New Smyrna Beach Area when he was five years old. He was a 1966 graduate of New Smyrna Beach High School, where he was a member of the football team. He first joined the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, then the Daytona Beach force in 1968. He retired from there in 1996 as a lieutenant and later worked at the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. He had earned an associate's degree from Daytona Beach Community College and bachelor's and master's degrees from Rollins College. After earning a doctorate in forensic science, Dr. Kincaid taught at Keiser University. He was a dedicated law enforcement officer who was proud of his service both as a police officer and a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Kincaid was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach. Survivors include his devoted wife of 37 years, Julie; one son, Philip Jr. (Angela); one daughter, Kryste Herring (Thomas); one sister, Sharron Read, three grandchildren, Kayla Mitchell, Johnphillip Herring and Seth Herring. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, 118 N. Palmetto Ave. Calling hours will begin at 10 a.m. Eric Stitts, senior pastor, and the Rev. Bobby Welch, will officiate.
