Funeral Services for Mr. Ralph "Sonny" Roland Cato, 82, who passed on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Institutional Church. Interment will follow in Daytona Memorial Park South. Calling hours are from 5 - 7 PM, today (Fri, Jan 31) at Mt. Bethel Baptist Institutional Church with family receiving friends from 5 - 6 PM and viewing will be from 9:30 AM until service time at the church on Saturday. Mr. Cato, a United States Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on August 8, 1931. He was the only son of Leroy Cato and Hilda Gadson. Sonny, as he was affectionately called by all who knew him, spent his entire life working. Among his many careers, Sonny was a boxer, a restaurant owner, an airbrake specialist inspector, a driver, a security officer and a restaurant manager, to name a few. Sonny was a lifetime member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a retiree of the New York City Transit Authority and Amtrak. Survivors include his wife, Denise L. McMillon Cato; 4 children: Linda Marie Cato, NY, Shawn Stackhouse, NC, Andre' R. Cato, Atlanta, GA, Marcel Cato, Daytona Bch; 5 sisters: Hilda C. Mason (David), Daytona Bch, Dorothy C. Thompson (Herbert), Deltona, FL, Edna C. Baker (Cornell), Lake City, FL, Julia C. Johnson (John), Hinesville, GA; Phyllis C. Campbell (Henry), Live Oak, FL; 2 brothers: Donald Cato (Roxanne), Sarasota, FL, Richard Cato (Lillian), Jasper, FL; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and his best friends, Harold and Marie Holloway.
