Ruth E. Currie Corhern, age 90, of New Smyrna Beach, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018 at home with two of her 5 sons by her bedside. She was born in Starkville Mississippi Aug 13, 1927, married in 1943 to Sarles Emerson Corhern. Sarles passed in 2008 after 65 year of marriage. Ruth and family moved to New Smyrna Beach Sept 1965 living on beach side until her passing. She was full of love, a dedicated Christian working for years volunteering at the First United Methodist Church in many different roles servicing the Lord. She enjoyed taking long walks on the beach, shelling, doing crafts and crocheting. After the boys grew up and moved out of the house, Ruth and Sarles traveled to many different states together seeing the sites and enjoying people they met along the way. She never met a stranger.
Ruth is survived by her sister Edwinna Edwards, sons and their wives Rod and Violi Corhern, Bob Corhern, Sid and Deborah Corhern, Bernard Corhern and Pat and Rita Corhern, two grandsons and their wives Jon and Paige Corhern and Austin and Sheila Corhern, one granddaughter Cheyenne Corhern, 2 step grandsons Jason and Heather Moore and Shawn Moore and 5 great granddaughters Alex and Ryan Moore and Alyx, Ally and Ava Corhern. Grave side funeral service and internment will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater, Florida.
Reception will follow at Hollister Hall, First United Methodist Church, 310 Douglas Street, New Smyrna Beach, Fl 32168. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made in Ruth Corhern's name to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Halifax Health Hospice 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 by contacting [email protected] or calling 800.272.2717.
