Sophia Deursen, age 94, of Port Orange, died peacefully on Thursday, November 30 at Brookdale, York Town. Born in Groningen, Netherlands, October 27, 1923, she and her husband immigrated to the United States in 1962 with their three young children. They settled in Minnesota for many years and moved to Port Orange, Fl. in 1992. A homemaker most of her life, she was a member of Port Orange Presbyterian Church, and their Women's Circle for many years where she was an avid sewer, and supporter of church charities. Survivors include a son, Hank (Patricia) of Michigan, daughters, Margaret Watson (Charles), Arkansas, and Ria Hall (Jon), Florida. Eight grandchildren including Nicole (Mark), Florida, Anthony (Nathan), South Carolina, Elizabeth (John), Florida, and Andrew (Kim), Florida, and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Berend and Margaretha Reining, her brothers Jo, and Jan, and her husband of 50 years, Henderikus. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Minneapolis, Minnesota at a time yet to be determined. Any donations should be made to VITAS hospice care.
