William P. Cottrill, 1931-2014, 82, passed away peacefully at home on the 9th of January 2014. A Navy veteran with 25 years of experience during the Korean, Vietnam, and Cold War. He enlisted at the lowest rank as a communication technician and worked his way up to officer. (CWO III). He was born in Buffalo, NY on October 6th, 1931. Growing up he split his time between western New York (Arcade) and Daytona Beach, FL schools. After a tour of duty in Japan, he returned to New York and married Maureen Hooper on May 21st, 1955. During his tour of duty, he had the chance to see much of the world. Bill was stationed at California, Japan, England, Maryland, Florida, Alaska, Philippines, Guam, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Upon retiring in Daytona Beach, FL, with summers in western New York at the beautiful Crystal Lake, Bill and Maureen continued to travel around the world by water and air. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lorne and Alice Cottrill, his wife, Maureen Hooper Cottrill, and his granddaughter, Kara Lauren Maday. He is survived by his children Mary (Heather) Heal of York, PA, Lorna Cottrill-Maday of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Roy M. Cottrill of Daytona Beach, FL, grandchildren Steven Heal and Raya Maday. Also his sister Maryal Wold, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will not be a service in Flolrida, however, a celebration of life will be held this coming summer at Crystal Lake, NY. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) located at 550 Main St., Arcade, NY 14009.
