
Robert "Bob" DiVirgilio, 82, of Ormond Beach, a kind and gentle man, died peacefully Sunday, August 26, 2012. The Memorial Service will be Friday, September 7 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1014 N. Halifax Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32118. Bob was born in Astoria, Queens, New York to Nicolas and Catherine DeVirgilio. He proudly served his country in the Army with two tours in Korea. Bob achieved the rank Sergeant, First Class, serving with the 3rd Division, 15th Infantry Regiment, ABLE Company, the "Can Do" Regiment and was a lifetime member of the DAV. Bob worked for Consolidated Edison for 41 years in New York. Before his retirement in 1990 he achieved Overhead Line Supvr, Bronx Div. In 1989 Bob married Mary McKibbin and together they enjoyed a second home in Vermont since 1984. There they spent summers on their tree farm where he was passionate about the outdoors, tinkering with the farm equipment and the land. Upon Mary's retirement in 2003, they wintered in Ormond Beach. Bob will be remembered as a Mr. Fix-It, helping friends with repairs. He also enjoyed building airplane and ship models with exacting detail. Bob liked to sail his 4 and 5 foot model boats. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, survived by his wife, Mary, who will sadly miss the love of her life. Bob is also survived by his 5 children: Donna, Gregory, Debra, Denise and Dawn; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was especially close to his daughters, Debra Surace (Joseph) of Stonybrook, NY, Denise DiVirgilio-Boden (Scot) of Port Orange, FL, and Dawn McKibbin of Ormond Beach, FL. He is also survived by his sister Loretta Cancellara of Queens, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
