Leon Loften Dowdee, Jr., 68, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away peacefully at home on October 7, 2012. Leon's Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 10th at 5:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home, 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Leon was born to Leon and Annie Mae (McNutt) Dowdee, December 29, 1943 in Durham, N. Carolina and relocated to Volusia County at the age of twelve. He was a graduate of Seabreeze High School where he was a member of the marching band. Leon was a Postal Carrier with the US Postal service for 34 years, a Reserve Volusia County Sheriff Officer from 1977-2001, and served 20 years with the National Guard. He was a member of the NRA, enjoyed playing pool, riding his motorcycle, dog races, playing cards with his friends, and being home with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Diane Dowdee of Ormond Beach, his son, Leon "Lee" Dowdee III, of Apopka, FL, his daughters, Sandra (Dan) Watts of Port Orange, FL, and Lani (Kent) Spradley, of Ormond Beach, as well as five grandchildren, Samantha and Ryan Free, Jordan and Haley Snipes, and Carson Spradley, and cousin Joe Ivey, Durham, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange, FL 32129.
