Memorial Services celebrating the life of Mary Jo McCormick Drayton, 61, of Daytona Beach, FL, will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 12:00 pm at Allen Chapel AME Church, 580 George Engram Blvd, Daytona Beach, FL. Mrs. Drayton passed away peacefully on Monday, October 8, 2012 at Avante Skilled Nursing Facility after a long illness. She was born in Daytona Beach, FL on July 25, 1951 to the Late Eugene T. McCormick Sr. and Mrs. Willie Lee Hawkins. Mrs. Drayton attended and was a graduate of Volusia County schools. Prior to her illness, she worked at Bethune Cookman University in the capacity of Office Manager for the Student Support Service Program. A devout Christian, Mary Jo was a faithful member of Allen Chapel AME Church where she served as a Class Leader, Heritage Choir member and soloist, Glossie M. Beckton Women's Missionary Society member and former Trustee. She was also a member of the Sisters Alive Organization, Women's Advisory Board of Bethune Cookman University, and a Philo for Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. She enjoyed music, reading, people, community service and laughing with her family. Mrs. Drayton was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis H. Drayton and her father, Eugene T. McCormick. Survivors include her mother, Willie Lee Hawkins; her children, Michael E. McCormick, Leighetta Jackson (Mike), both of Daytona Beach, FL, Lea-Na Copeland (Huron) of Orlando, FL, Lynese Doukoure (Amed), of Atlanta, GA, Devon Dukes also of Daytona Beach, FL; and numerous grandchildren; great- grandchildren; family and friends.
