July 11, 1914 - Jan. 8, 2013. Alice J. Schap, born to Danish immigrants, August and Hedvig Andersen in Redfield, South Dakota, Alice grew up in the years including World War I, the Great Depression and World War II. These events shaped her character and outlook on the world. In 1940 she left Redfield and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she met Bill Schap, a farm boy from North Dakota. They married in 1941 and shared 64 years together. At the urging of their children, they moved from South Dakota to Ormond Beach in 1992 and shared many happy years watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and develop. Surrounded by her warm and loving family, she never lost her sense of humor even in the difficult times of fragile health during the final years. Alice is survived by her three children, Mary Jo Desautels (John), Diane Welch (Tony), Bill Schap, Jr. (Kim); grandchildren Monica Maclntyre (Rod), Rob Bryan (Vanessa), Marsha Evans (Jim), Andrew Desautels (Monika), Marty Desautels (Ann), Amy (Rusty) Belapolsky and Billy and Julia Schap; great-grandchildren include Nicole, Austin, Hogan and Heather Maclntyre, April and Phillip Desautels, Cole and Kylie Evans, Audrey and Shley Bryan. Alice loved her family unconditionally. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on January 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church followed by graveside services at Volusia Memorial Gardens.
