Funeral Services for Mr. Wilbert Kendrick, 80, Mableton, GA, who passed on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Tranquility Hospice in Austell, GA, will be 1 PM, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5-8:30 PM, today (Fri, Feb 14) at RJ Gainous Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:30-7:30 PM and from 11:30 AM until service time at the church on Saturday. He was born on August 31, 1933 in Bunnell, FL to Willie Lee and Alberta Kendrick and was raised in the Daytona Beach/Ormond community area. He was a dedicated long distance truck driver and entrepreneur. He retired in 1992 after an honorable career having received multiple awards for safety. Wilbert married his 1st wife, Olivia Groover, and was a wonderful stepfather to her son Kenneth Casher. He married his 2nd wife, Mary Shaw, in 1967 and had 2 children, Wilbert II and Salathiel. As a longtime member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, he served on the Ushers, Trustee, Deacons, and Tape ministries. He also served as Superintendent of Sunday School and Assistant Church Treasurer. Wilbert and Mary relocated to Mableton, GA to live with their daughter and her family 3 years ago. He leaves to cherish his memory a wife: Mary Shaw Kendrick; a son: Wilbert Kendrick II (Tina); a daughter: Dr. Salathiel Renee' Kendrick-Allwood (Dr. Steven); a stepson: Kenneth Casher; 5 brothers: Claude Bernard (Patricia), Donald (Sharon), Ronald (Mary), Craig (Jennifer), and Bruce; a sister: Barbara Jean Kendrick; a sister-in-law: Frankie Kendrick; 2 granddaughters: Assata Ire Allwood and Asantewaa Isoke Allwood; a step-grandson: Brian Morris; 2 step-granddaughters: Tasha Cason and Faith Grace Cason; 2 god-daughters: Felicia Wright-Thayer (Renard) and Auburn Thayer; a godson: US Army Sergeant Xavier Thayer (Zendy); a former daughter-in-law: Raisa Manninen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
