Funeral services for Ms. Martha Hopkins, 93, Daytona Beach, who passed on Monday, February 3, 2014, will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5-8:30 PM today, (Fri, Feb 14) at RJ Gainous Funeral Home and from 9:30 AM until service time at the church on Saturday. Ms. Hopkins was born September 29, 1920 in Quincy, FL, to the late George and Mamie Lee Hopkins. She was the 2nd child of twelve children. She attended the public schools of Gadson County, FL. Ms. Hopkins moved to Daytona Bch in 1941 and lived here until her death. Ms. Hopkins enjoyed cooking, fishing, family and friends. She helped raise her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church many years ago, where she served on Usher Board #2. She retired from private housekeeping with Diane Dyer after 22 years and they remained friends until her death. She was preceded by her parents, George and Mamie Lee Hopkins, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and her children, Theodore Carter, James Cooper, Jr. and Geraldine Hopkins. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons: Vernon Hopkins, George Hopkins, both of Orlando, FL, Richard Hopkins, Daytona Bch, FL; daughters: Julia Swindle, Miami, FL, Margaret Parks (John), Daytona Bch, FL, Edith Hopkins, Hollywood, FL, Patricia Casellas, Daytona Bch, FL, Martha A. Hopkins, Orlando, FL; brothers: Raymond Hopkins (Helen), New London, CT, George Hopkins, Jr., Syracuse, NY, Roosevelt Hopkins (Betty), Quincy, FL; sisters: Delores Hopkins, Miami, FL, Angela Hopkins Harris (Robert), Jacksonville, FL, Allie Mae Hopkins, Daytona Bch, FL; 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
