Funeral Services for Mrs. Libbie Geneva Harrell, 97, New Smyrna Bch, who passed on Sunday, February 9, 2014, will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Allen Chapel AME Church, New Smyrna Beach, with Rev. Lorenzo Laws, Pastor, delivering the main eulogy. Interment will follow in Glencoe-Geiger Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5-7 PM, today (Fri, Feb 21) at Allen Chapel AME Church and from 9:30 AM until service time at the church on Saturday. Mrs. Harrell was born August 1, 1916 in Ambrose, Georgia to Rubie Kate Mitchell and John Henry Clark. Libbie moved to New Smyrna Beach, Fl at the age of 8, where she helped care for her younger siblings. She was a seamstress and loved sewing and baking. During the Great Depression, she moved to Miami to work at the George Washington Hotel where she worked for 5 years sending money back to help her family. She developed a love for literature and African American history. Libbie married the late Earnest Harrell in 1931. She accepted Christ and became a member of Allen Chapel AME Church, New Smyrna Bch, FL, where she served on Choir #1, Stewardess Board #1, Women's Missionary Society. She also was Secretary for the Lily White Lodge. She was preceded in death by a son: Willard Harrell Riley, daughter: Madelyn Blunt and grandson: Daniel Cross. She is survived by a devoted daughter, Charleen Harrell-Townsend Daytona Bch; 2 sisters, Susie Mae Clark, Douglas, Ga; Marilyn Isaac, New Smyrna Bch, FL; grandchildren: Michael Riley, Augusta, Ga; Francine Riley, Atlanta, Ga; Erika Simes (Andre), Clearwater, Fl; Gia Blunt (Demarcus), Atlanta, Ga; Akil Harrell, Orlando, Fl; Sasha Townsend, Daytona Beach, Fl; great-grandchildren: Amiya, Daylyn, Myles, Ajai, Nicholas, Kiian and Bryce. Extended family: Pam Snowden, Nancy Nell Boyd, Robert Townsend Jr., Stella Reese, Gary Taylor, Deonna Augustine, Mildred Garwin, Lascellas Adams, and Jacquelyn Riley, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
