Lloyd Leland Ellis was born on June 6, 1924 to Leland and Virginia "Virgie" Ellis and on Monday, February 24, 2014 he was blessed to meet his Heavenly Father for all eternity. His birth was at home on their homesteaded farm in Overland Park, KS. A few years later his dad acquired some 150 acres, also in Overland Park. Lloyd worked the farm, helping his dad, tending livestock, helping with the planting and harvesting, and learning the road worthiness, or lack thereof, of the family 1929 Dodge. Lloyd attended Shawnee Mission High School where he lettered as a member of the Track Team for his 100-yard dash and the 220-yard sprint competitions. In 1943 he married Peggy Leona Marie Grove just before being moved to Navy basic training. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Princeton in aircraft ordinance where would reload the guns, bombs and rockets on the fighters. In 1954 he moved his family to Van Nuys, California to help his sister, Allene, take care of their aging parents. He joined West Van Nuys Methodist and later Grace Community Church in Panorama City. For over 50 years he was never out of work. By word of mouth there was always a demand for Lloyd's craftsmanship. He continued into his 80's fixing or making things crafted of wood: from world class cigar boxes to custom homes for Hollywood Stars. In 1960, Lloyd moved his family to a new house in a new development in Chatsworth, California. He lived there until moving to Florida in 2006. He was married to his first wife for 49 years until her passing in 1992. They eventually had a total of five boys and one girl who would bless them with two grand-daughters, three grandsons and two great grandsons. He married his Shawnee Mission High School classmate, Ruth Woodman Hallman, in 2000, loving her dearly to this day. Lloyd was predeceased by his two sons Randy and Rick as well as his daughter Susan, and he is survived by his three sons, Mark, Larry, and David, his granddaughters Jodie and Stephanie, grandsons Isaac, Weylin, and Jayson, and great-grandsons Curtis and Lincoln. To this day he has many friends from Grace Community Church and they've all stayed in touch over the years. Following their move to Florida, Lloyd and Ruth became staunch supporting members of Beacon Baptist Church, 2315 Beville Road in Daytona Beach Florida, where Lloyd's memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 1st. The Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand, Florida is in charge of memorial service arrangements and friends and family are invited to join us in a celebration of his life. Lloyd's custom woodwork always came with more than a few good jokes, and of all his tools, his humor was among the sharpest.
