Patricia C. Bernal, 90, of South Daytona, FL passed from this life on February 27, 2014. Pat is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Rudolph "Bernie" Bernal. She is also survived by their beloved children Pam Dalton (Dave), Steven Bernal (Joan) and Priscilla Youngs (John). Pat leaves behind her loving grandchildren: Julia, Michael (Elizabeth), Matthew (Jenise), Shaun, Jason (Shayna), Courtney, Sara, Brian and Alex, as well as her four great-grandchildren, her sister Mary Lou Cruice, sister-in-law Louise Cruice, son-in-law Bob Thompson, and many nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her daughter Penelope Thompson and her brothers Robert Cruice, Jr., Donald Cruice and Gerard Cruice. Pat was born and raised in Algiers, New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating high school at the age of sixteen, she began schooling at Hotel Dieu in New Orleans where she became a Registered Nurse. By the time Pat was twenty, she was serving proudly as an Officer in the United States Navy Nurse Corps. While she was in the Navy, Pat met her beloved husband Bernie and they married. Soon after, she resigned her commission and they started their family. Over the next twenty years as a Navy wife, Pat supported Bernie's career living in various locations throughout Europe and the United States. Relocating to Daytona Beach in 1967, Pat and Bernie became members of what is now the Basilica of St. Paul Parish and raised their family. Pat lived her life as a devout Catholic and involved herself in numerous parish ministries. Along with her parish activities, she was active at her children's schools and worked as a Registered Nurse for prominent cardiologists in the Daytona Beach area. Pat will be missed by all who knew her. The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at The Basilica of St. Paul, located at 317 Mullally Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pat's memory to The Basilica of St. Paul, 317 Mullally Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
