Mrs. Janet (Jan) Williams of Ormond Beach passed away in her home on Saturday, April 26, surrounded by her husband and two daughters. It was a peaceful end to a courageous, loving, and remarkable journey. Jan was born on June 2, 1940 in Potsdam, New York to the late Darby and Margaret Cook (Wilson). As a young girl, she moved with her parents and four siblings to Fort Pierce, Florida. Upon completion of high school, Jan attended Warren Wilson College in North Carolina where she met and married her husband, Jay. After college, Jay and Jan relocated to Florida and started their family. During early-married years, Jan stayed home raising Jill and Judy. Later, she worked for State Farm Insurance as a Claims Administrative Assistant, retiring in 2003. She treasured traveling with her husband, especially going to the North Carolina Mountains for the beautiful change of seasons. One of her favorite trips was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with her family in San Francisco in 2010. When Jan and Jay retired, they moved to Halifax Plantation in Ormond Beach. Jan loved all kinds of music, dancing, singing, reading, working with flowers, and long walks. She cherished spending time with old and new friends. Jan was a member of the Tomoka United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed friends and fellowship, sang in the choir, was in a Wednesday Bible study, and participated in a prayer intercession group. She had a tender heart, loved people unconditionally, and habitually considered the needs of others before her own. Jan was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother ("Nina"), and friend who will be greatly missed by all fortunate enough to share life with her. Jan is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, John (Jay) Williams; two daughters, Jill Williams of Austin, Texas, and Judy Williams Riley (Tim) of Port Charlotte, Florida; two grandchildren, Tim Riley and Erin Riley; sister Nancy Sheffield (Vince) of Birmingham, Alabama; brothers, Darby Cook (Kathy) of Leesburg, Florida, Jim Cook (Beth) of Burleson, Texas, and Jeff Cook (Bobbi) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; nephews, Matt Sheffield (Virginia), Keith (Gina) Sheffield, Mike (Jennifer) Cook, Michael (Jessica) Cook, and Jeff Cook; nieces, Christine (Rob) Caruso, Jennifer (Jason) Matthews, Juli (David) Botelho, Kristina Cook; and numerous great nieces, great nephews, and friends. A memorial service celebrating Jan's life will be held at Tomoka United Methodist Church, 1000 Old Tomoka Road, Ormond Beach, Florida, 32174, on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tomoka United Methodist Church, or a .
