Steven A. MacHutta of Port Orange, FL passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the age of 92. Steve was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 8, 1921. His experience of living through the great depression, were influential in shaping his character. On his own by age 15, Steve knew what it was like to work hard. 1946 marked the year he started his own business selling office equipment and supplies, plus complete maintenance and service and eventually founded the Steven Mack Corporation. Steve retired and moved to Florida with his wife Gloria and their two children in 1970. Not one to stay "retired", Steve soon found himself in Wisconsin building and running an apartment complex. He studied with Dale Carnegie and later taught at seminars throughout the country. One of his favorite sayings was, "If you want to be enthusiastic, you have to ACT enthusiastic." Steve's lifelong passion was always aviation. In 1941 he took flying lessons at Zahn's Airport in Amityville, Long Island. He didn't have money to pay for lessons, so he traded his services at the airport in exchange for flying lessons. It was his love of flying that brought him to the Spruce Creek Fly-In in 1983. Steve is survived by his wife, Gloria of 55 years, their two children Deborah MacHutta-Mars (Howard) and Dennis MacHutta (Julie), and six children from his first marriage to Dorothy Jones; Stephen MacHutta, Donald MacHutta (Bernie), Diane Dantzer (Joe), Daniel MacHutta (Sheila), Douglas MacHutta (Lisa) and Dwight MacHutta (Denise) and 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. The family is grateful for the kindness, compassion and support provided to Steve and his family by Hospice of Volusia. Memorial contributions may be made in Steve's memory to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia / Flagler, 3800 Wood-briar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
