James "Gee Gee" R. McCracken, 84, of Port Orange died Thursday, May 22, 2014 with his family by his side. Gee Gee was born July 28, 1929 in Cameron, WV to the late Lavonne Windom McCracken and R. Paul McCracken. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Gee Gee was a true patriot and loved his country. He married the love of his life, Betty Bailey on July 15, 1955. They settled in St. Albans, WV to raise their two sons. After his time in the service he worked for Union Carbide in South Charleston, WV. After 40 years of service he retired and moved to Port Orange in 1995. Gee Gee was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ, St. Albans, WV, Port Orange Eagles #4089, AMVETS Post 911, Port Orange. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His children will remember him as a man who never met a stranger. Gee Gee was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry and Jack McCracken and grandson, Brandon Lee McCracken. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty of 58 years; two sons, Steve and his wife, Tammy of Flagler Beach, FL and Kenny of Cape Girardeau, MO; six grandchildren, Ryan McCracken, Jobria McCracken Clendenin, Stephine McCracken, Jamie McCracken, Joshua McCracken, Travis McCracken and one great grandson, Thomas Lee McCracken.
