Funeral services for Mr. Elmore Gooding, 83, Daytona Bch, who passed on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, will be 11 AM, Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at RJ Gainous Funeral Home, with Rev. Calvin Conage, Pastor, St. Mark Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5-8 PM, today, (Mon, May 26) and from 9:30 AM until service time at the Funeral Home on Tuesday. Elmore was born on February 17, 1931 in Daytona Beach, Florida to the late Elmore, Sr. and Primrose Gooding. Elmore was a graduate of Campbell High School in Daytona Bch, FL. After graduation, Elmore worked as a plasterer with his Dad and later worked for Volusia County Government for 33 years. He retired on February 28, 1992 as a Bookmobile driver for Volusia County's Library Operations. Elmore was never late to start his 6:00 am workday. Elmore was a faithful member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church for over 35 years. He served in various roles to assist and support the church over the years. Elmore was the Superintendent of St. Mark's Sunday School program and stood on the principle to always put God first and treat one another as you want to be treated. Elmore enjoyed family time, listening to gospel music, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed watching religious programs on television. He frequently visited nursing home patients and assisted people needing transportation. He was generous to help someone in need and financially supported a variety of charitable organizations. During his later years, He loved sitting on his front porch or in his parked car listening to gospel music and reflecting on how good God has been to him throughout his lifetime. He loved people and was loved by all he came in contact with. Elmore was preceded in death by his parents and his wife JoAnn Lawrence Gooding. Elmore survivors include 4 sons: Don Gooding (Dalecia), Ormond Bch, Andrew Gooding, Atlanta, GA, and Jonathan Gooding, Atlanta, GA, Larry Marshall, Daytona Bch; 2 daughters, Virginia Gooding, Daytona Bch, Vanessa Lawrence Williams, Washington, DC; 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
