Thomas Mehl, 95, of Palm Coast, died Thursday, March 3, 2014 at the Coquina Center Nursing Home in Ormond Beach. Mr. Mehl was born August 24, 1918 in Alliance, Ohio, a son of Frederick and May Proffit Mehl. He graduated of Alliance High School, and then was drafted in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served as a Tech Sergeant in Company B of the 3181st Signal Service Battalion. Mr. Mehl received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star; Victory Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Army Occupation Medal-Japan and the Meritorious United Award. He was honorably discharged in October of 1946. Mr. Mehl started his career with Ohio Bell. He began working as an installer and repairman, then retired in 1982 after 42 years as a Division Manager. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Crystal River, FL. He then moved to the Palm Coast area in 2008. Mr. Mehl enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening. He was an avid Ohio sports fan. His wife of 66 years, the former Mildred Smith, whom he married August 28, 1941 died April 8, 2007. Mr. Mehl is survived by one son, Robert (Susan) Mehl of Palm Coast; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Mehl of Palm Coast; sister, Mary Ellen Dondzila of Rockville, MD.; brother, William (Joyce) Mehl of Alliance, OH; five grandchildren, Christopher Mehl; Bobbi (Dan) Coleman, Robin (Forty) Semadeni, Brad (Amy) Mehl and Kyle Mehl; seven great-grand-children, Emma Coleman, Jack Semadeni, Anna Coleman, Benny Mehl, Sophie Semadeni, Gabby Semadeni, and Camryn Mehl. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Mehl, and brother, Luther Mehl. Family and friends will be received Friday, July 11th from 9:30-10:30 am at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South in Flagler Beach, where services will he held at 10:30am.
