Wendell Phillips, age 82, of New Smyrna Beach, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach. Born in Osteen, Mr. Phillips was a lifelong area resident who worked on the railroad prior to owning Phillips Feed Store. A founding member of New Smyrna Beach Church of Christ and a University of Alabama fan, he enjoyed telling stories and was a hard worker. Survivors include his wife, Doris; two children, Wendy (Hayden) Smith of Riverview, Florida and Rusty (Samantha) Phillips of New Smyrna Beach; and two grandchildren, Meaghan Smith of Riverview and Nicholas Smith of Houston, Texas. Wendell enjoyed new additions to his family with three more children, Tom Aids of Miramar, Florida, Ruthie Frady of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Joanne Schleifer of Daytona Beach; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Mim Phillips in 2004. Graveside funeral service will be 10:00 a. m. Friday, July 11 at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery, with Minister Theodore L. Kuzma, New Smyrna Beach Church of Christ officiating. Calling hours will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. today (Thursday, July 10) at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach chapel.
