Funeral Services for Ms. Joyce L. Browning, 70, Hyattsville, MD, who passed on Sunday, July 6, 2014, will be 2 PM, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at RJ Gainous Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5-8:30 PM, today (Fri, July 25) at RJ Gainous Funeral Home. Ms. Browning was educated in Volusia County public schools, graduating from the former Campbell Street High School in 1961. She attended Volusia County Community College from 1961 to 1963. In 1965 she received a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Bethune-Cookman College. She was born in Daytona Bch; however, in 1968 she moved to Washington, DC to participate in a Teacher Corps Program, which allowed her to earn a Masters degree in education. Her teaching career began and ended in D.C. She taught 37 years, until her retirement at Western High School, which later became known as Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Joyce loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a strong devotion to her faith. She is preceded in death by her mother, Willie Lee Browning and a brother, Leo Steve Browning. She is survived by brothers: Carl J. Browning, Walter L. Browning, James A. Browning, all of Daytona Bch, Donald F. Browning (Janice), Rochester, NY; a sister: Eddie Ruth Browning, Daytona Bch; many nieces, nephews, cousins and an uncle.
