Albert J. "Al" Egger, age 83, of Palm Coast, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Stuart Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast. He was born on October 27, 1930 in Switzerland, and moved to the United States at the age of 20. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Because of his fluency in many languages, Al landed a job as an import/export traffic manager in New York, and worked in that occupation for 32 years, retiring from Cosco International in the late 1980s. Upon his retirement, he moved to St. Augustine where he lived until he moved to Palm Coast in 2000. An avid swimmer, Al enjoyed swimming for many years with a group of friends on a near daily basis until about 2 months ago. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in St. Augustine. Above all, Al was a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Greg Egger of Palm Coast; daughters, Gerda Egger of St. Petersburg and Jeanette Herr of St. Augustine; a brother, Etienne Egger of Switzerland; nephews, Marcel Egger and Wilfried Egger both of Switzerland; grandchildren, Aubrey, Jay-Cee, Gregory and Scott; and a great grandson, Gregory. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
