Edward J. Gartland, 86, of DeLand, FL passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Florida Hospital DeLand. Born in Newark, NJ he moved to the area in 1976 from Dewitt, NY. Mr. Gartland was a retired Sergeant with the U.S Air Force for 26 years, serving in the combat crew and receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross. He also worked for the Volusia County Sheriff's Department for 13 years. He was a member of the American Legion, AmVets, VFW, DAV, Air Force Sergeants Assoc. and the Retired Enlisted Assoc. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverley; son, Edward Joseph Lamb of Bermuda; daughters, Eileen Berg of Fargo, ND, Jeanette Newton of Cumberland Foreside, ME, Mary DeAngelis of Pennington, NJ and Mary Kay Lamb of Bermuda; sister, Elizabeth Sabatino of Port Reading, NJ; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Tokay. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in DeLand. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
