Bruce D. Ahrens, 88, of Orange City, passed away on April 7, 2012 at the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Care Center in Orange City. He was born in New York City on October 28, 1923 and came to Orange City in 2004 from Ormond Beach. During World War II, Bruce served in the US Army Air Corps as a Navigator on a B26. He graduated from New York University with a degree in chemical engineering. Bruce was a self-taught ham radio operator, he enjoyed photography, taking and developing his own pictures. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a good golfer. He taught himself computers and loved flying. Bruce was a private pilot, getting every rating for a private pilot. Survivors include his wife, Janet; sons Jeff Ahrens and wife Theresa, John Ahrens and wife Cindy and Bill Ahrens and wife Maureen; sister Susan Hammer and husband Pat; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
