- John M. "Jack" Barr, 82, of Edgewater, a U. S. Air Force Master Sergeant retiring after 20 years service, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Southeast Volusia Hospice Care Center, Edgewater. Mr. Barr was born in Waterbury, CT and moved to Edgewater sixteen years ago from Springfield, OH. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and after his retirement from the Air Force, worked as an auditor for Marathon Oil Company in Springfield for 25 years. He was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic Church, Father Dillon Council #13989, Knights of Columbus and Hacienda Veterans Association, all in Edgewater. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #17, New Smyrna Beach. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothy J. Barr; one son, John C. (Susan) Barr of Ithaca, NY; one brother, Robert (Andrea) Barr of Deltona; one sister, Barbara Beck of Panama City; two grandchildren, Gwendolyn Barr of Morrisburg, Ontario and Gabriel Barr of Ithaca and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be from 5PM until 8PM with a Wake service at 7:30 PM, Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Dudley Edgewater Chapel, Edgewater. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Thursday, May 3, 2012 at St. Gerard's Catholic Church, Edgewater. Cremation will be by Dudley Crematory, New Smyrna Beach. Cremains burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 239 Adams Road., Edgewater, FL 32141.
