Freda J. Ritter, "Casey" died surrounded by her family on Friday, May 25, 2012. Born in Harlan County, Kentucky, she moved to Florida in 1955 from Dearborn, Michigan and would soon be one of the first LPN's to work at West Volusia Memorial Hospital. She was proud of her boys told everyone as her love was unconditional. She enjoyed traveling with them as children and leaves many fond memories for them to share today. Freda was an avid sportswoman and was known to sneak off and go deep sea fishing only to return with a prize Sail fish she had mounted and proudly displayed. In her later years she was cared for by her son's and the caring staff at Florida Lutheran Retirement Center and Health Center where she was known as the "Puzzle Lady" and the "Bingo Queen". In bingo, she won many prizes that soon would turn out to be presents for her sons and grandchildren. Casey's humor, sense of adventure and free spirit will be missed by all whose lives she touched. She leaves, Ken, Doug, Larry and Randy Ritter; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 6:00PM on Tuedsay, May 29, 2012 at Florida Lutheran Retirement Center with a reception to follow at the center. In lieu of flowers the boys request donations to be made to, FLRC Employees Appreciation Fund, 450 N. Mc Donald Ave., DeLand, FL 32724 in the memory of Casey Ritter. Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with the services.
