Edward Lee Carroll, 65, departed this life June 8 in Jackson, Tenn. Mr. Carroll was born on February 23, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son of the late Denver L. Carroll and Robbie Beall. He was a Vietnam War veteran; during his service he received the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman's Badge. Mr. Carroll retired in 1995 as a Major from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office after 25 years. He graduated from DeLand High School in 1966, the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and received a Masters in Criminal Justice from Rollins College. He was a Mason with St. Johns Lodge #37 in DeLand. He is survived by his two children: a son Lee Carroll of Bath Springs, TN; and a daughter Nancy Biggar of Auburndale, Florida; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 29 at 1:00 pm, First Baptist Church of DeLand. His children request that donations be made in his honor to Disabled American Veterans or 11th Armored Calvary's Veterans of Vietnam.
