Anne Elizabeth Berry Banton, age 66, passed away September 21, 2012. Anne was born October 3, 1945 in South Bend, Indiana to Lewis Edward and Maerose Berry. Anne was an Occupational Therapist, and spent over 35 years helping children with disabilities, first at Forest Park Elementary School and then at Lake Silver Elementary in Orlando, FL. Anne was instrumental in developing the Assistive Technology Education Network of Florida, a program designed to provide innovative ways for disabled children to communicate. Anne was committed to helping children, and to helping other professionals in their assistive technology careers. After retiring in 2008, Anne devoted herself to many volunteer opportunities, including the Special Olympics, and many environmental groups such as Florida State Parks Jay Watch Program, Volusia County Washback Watchers, Manatee Watch, and Gopher Trackers. In addition, Anne completed the University of Florida Master Gardener and Master Naturalist programs. Anne also enjoyed playing the dulcimer with the Picky Chicks. Anne's greatest joy was spending time with her three grandchildren, to whom she was deeply devoted. Anne is survived by her husband Gerald; her brother Thomas Dennis Berry; and her daughters and their husbands Ginger and Matt Adair, Mindy and Jose Solivan, and Megan and James Pohlman. She has three loving grandchildren, Evan and Grace Martin, and Andres Solivan. Anne possessed a quiet strength, and was loved by all who knew her. She faced her final challenges with grace and an unflinching positive spirit. She was taken from us too soon, but we are all the better for having known her. A private remembrance celebration is planned for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gabriel House of Care at the Mayo Clinic at 4599 Worral Way, Jacksonville, FL 32224.
