Bernice Catherine Gilchrist, 74, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away on September 30, 2012. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church in Westbury, NY. All arrangements are under the careful direction of the Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast, 220 Palm Coast Pkwy, SW, Palm Coast. Bernice was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY where she attended and graduated from Bushwick High School. She then worked as a filing clerk for the John Hassell Company for many years. Bernice met and then married the love of her life Bill Gilchrist on October 17, 1959. Together they had two beautiful children. Bernice enjoyed her time raising her children and entertaining for her friends and family. She found great pleasure in preparing everyone's favorite meals. In 1994 Bernice and Bill relocated to Palm Coast. Here she became a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Bernice enjoyed attending church and loved her quiet time at the beach. She had a real love for the ocean. Bernice will be remembered for her quick witted sense of humor and her pure love for life. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert and Raymond and sister Eleanor. She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years William "Bill" Gilchrist of Palm Coast, FL; son William James Gilchrist III of Miami, FL; daughter Kathleen Gilchrist-Johnson and her husband Donald of Sayville, NY; brother Richard Fritzsche and his wife Jane of Valley Stream, NY; sisters Barbara Maggio and her husband Sal of Westbury, NY, Marie Turner of Pennsylvania; and sister-in-law Marie Eastman of Queens, NY. Donations in Bernice's name may be made to the Central & North Florida Chapter, 378 Center Pointe Circle, Ste 1280, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701. Condolences may be shared with the family online at
