Sara P. Scanlan also known as Sally, passed away Oct. 9 at 12:05 am. She was 95 years old. Sally was born in Passaic, N.J. Dec. 19, 1916 to Irish immigrants who arrived to continue the family linen business. Her Irish heritage was a major part of her life and the lives of her 3 daughters, Ann Arnold of South Daytona, Beth Beaver of Hickory, N.C., and Kay Bell of Port Orange. As a substitute teacher and 20+ years school volunteer coordinator, Sally enjoyed talking about and sharing information about the crafts, legends, and history of Ireland with the children and teachers who loved hearing her presentations. She was call "grandma" by scores of Volusia county children and was honored by both local and state school boards for her exceptional service. The other primary interest in Sally's life was the TOPS weight loss organization (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). She was leader of South Daytona Chapter 266 and served in a state capacity on many occasions. Sally's family also includes two sons-in-law Brian and Dale; grandchildren Doug and Holly; great-grandchildren Kayla, Chris, and Jaimie. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years Frank, her two brothers Walter and George and their wives, and her brother-in- law Charles and his wife. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia, Flagler. Memorial service is planned for Friday, Oct 12, at 4:00 pm at Port Orange Presbyterian Church on Clyde Morris in Port Orange.
