Richard "Dick" Ferrara, 82, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away on October 22, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 10:00 am until the Memorial Service at 11:00 am, followed by a reception at the Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast, 220 Palm Coast Pkwy, SW, Palm Coast. Dick was born and raised on Long Island, New York, graduating from Hempstead High School. He attended the University of Michigan, Vanderbilt University, and received his Doctorate from Florida Atlantic University. Dick proudly served in the United States Navy Reserves. Dick moved with his wife Valerie from New York to Florida in 1966, where he worked for over 37 years as an educator, starting as a history teacher and ultimately serving as Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Palm Beach County School District. After his retirement he moved to Palm Coast, Florida, from where he and his wife pursued their love of travel for many years. He also enjoyed playing croquet, bridge, and tennis, and spending time with his many dear friends. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and his pure love for life. Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Valerie of Palm Coast; son Richard John LePetri and his wife Barbara Ann of New York; daughter Jennifer Ann Ferrara and her husband David of Vermont; and brother Lawrence J. Ferrara of Florida. Dick was also the loving grandfather of his three grandchildren: Nicole Ellyn, Anna Noelle, and Elijah James.
