Betty J. Hayes, age 80, of DeLand, died Sunday, January 13 at home. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mrs. Hayes was a long time resident of DeLand. Described as a classy lady who made her mark on DeLand, she owned and operated Betty Hayes Realty, and was past president of the West Volusia Association of Realtors. She was also a member of the DeLand Garden Club and was active with Main Street DeLand.
Survivors include a brother, Arthur Bates of Apison, Tennessee; three sisters, Glenda Bates and Marcy Bates, both of Apison, and Audrey Lee of Ooltewah, Tennessee; a niece, Denise Lee of Ooltewah; and a nephew and caregiver, David C. Hayes of DeLand. Graveside funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 18 at DeLand Memorial Gardens, with Chaplain Ray Bertrand, Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler officiating. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
