Gordon Crossman Godard, age 80, of Port Orange, FL, died on January 12, 2013 at Halifax Medical Center, Port Orange, Born in Clinton, MA, Gordon was a graduate of Clinton High School and attended Atlantic Union College in S. Lancaster, MA, He was a Specialist in the Army Signal Corps from 1954-56, and served for a year in Germany. Gordon was the owner of Godard News in Clinton, a retail and news distribution business founded by his father. He moved to Florida in 1977, and worked for the Daytona International Speedway before his retirement. Gordon enjoyed RV travel with his wife of 19 years, Janet, and his dog Annie. He was pre-deceased by his father, William H. Godard, mother Isabel Crossman Godard, infant sister Kathryn, brother William Jr., son Robert and stepson Robert Thomas. He is survived by his loving wife Janet Weaver Godard; brother Joseph E. Godard, MD, New Smyrna Beach, FL; three sons - Gordon "Butch" Godard, Paul Godard and James Godard, all of Clinton; three daughters - Deborah Whitcomb of Sterling, MA, Sharon Godard of Lexington, SC and Andrea Sargent of Clinton; two stepsons - Paul Thomas of Port Orange and Theodore Thomas of Pennsylvania; stepdaughter Wendy Decker of Oregon; three grandsons; and two nephews. No local services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society at wwwJialifaxhumanesociety.org.
