Barbara S. Hoefert passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at home after struggling with illness during 2012. Barbara was born in Red Bank, N.J. and graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School and then attended the University of Miami. A few years later after moving back to New Jersey, she married Edward Hoefert, Sr. She always dreamed of living in Florida and moved to Ormond Beach in 1978. Barbara later went on to retire from Peninsula Medical Center where she worked as a Laboratory Technologist. Barbara rewed the only true love of her life, Edward Hoefert Sr. in the mid 1980's. Barbara was loved for her fabulous cooking and would always fix someone's favorite dish if they were coming to town. She never met a stranger, and would take in strays - animals and people alike throughout her life. Barbara was always known for her kindness, generosity, and her ability to make you laugh. Few people knew that Barbara in her earlier years as a mother and wife, studied portrait art and was an artist. Survivors include sons Edward Hoefert, Jr. of Venice, son-in-law, David Ingram, Nokomis, FL, Christian Hoefert, Ormond Beach, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Linda Hoefert of Ormond Beach; many nieces and nephews, Frank Hoefert and Cheryl Colline of New Jersey, Jane Matthews of Winter Park, FL, Margaret Slovenz-Kniffin of Atlanta, GA, and Annette Leary of Nathrop, CO. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Hoefert, Sr.; 7 day old daugher Holly Ann Hoefert; brothers, Joseph N. Slovenz, and Jack Slovenz. A private memorial service for family members will be held at a later date. Barbara would have liked any memorial donations to be made to the Halifax Humane Society, 2364 Lpga Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32124.
