James Robert Baker, 66, of Edgewater, a decorated Navy Vietnam Veteran was called to a higher command on March 27, 2013. After a lengthy illness, James departed peacefully at the Edgewater Hospice Facility. Originally from St. Albans, Vermont, Jim moved to the Orlando area in 1957 when he was 10. After serving in the United States Navy he worked for the School District of Osceola County as director of Risk Management and as an Environmental Specialist, retiring after a period of 30 years. He migrated to Edgewater in 2000, where he met and married his wife Linda. For the past decade Jim helped mold the American Legion Post 285 in Edgewater as he held numerous offices including American Legion District 17 Commander for two terms overseeing 17 American Legion Posts and past Honor Guard Commander of Post 285 Edgewater. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors. Although he was a man of few words, much can be said about him as his dedication to any undertaking he addressed. Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Baker; brother, Frank Baker of Arizona; sister, Mary Baker of Orlando; son, Bobby Baker; cousin David Baker and his wife Cora of New Smyrna Beach; cousin Darla Beauvais and her husband Bill of Sebastian; step sons, Richard, Bradford and Kyle Evans of Edgewater. Memorial service shall be held on Friday, April 5th at 2pm at Veterans Park in Edgewater, 1811 S. Riverside Dr. by the American Legion Post 285 Honor Guard and Color Guard with members of the United States Navy Honor Guard in attendance. A celebration of life gathering shall follow the service at the American Legion Post 285, 4497 US Hwy # 1, Edgewater, FL.
