Paul "Wayne" Ward, 76, passed away on April 2nd after an acute illness. His family moved to Florida in his youth and settled in Daytona Beach. He served the National Guards in North Carolina and Florida, was a Deacon at First Baptist Church and was honored as Young Man of the Year by the Daytona Beach Jaycees. He advocated for the public's right to access the beaches locally and state wide and founded the Sons of the Beaches. He founded Tip Top Printing Company in 1961 which grew from a one man shop to one of the largest printing companies in Florida. Wayne was an active fisherman and after selling his business he became an avid sailor and Captain of the sailing sloop, "Irish Rover". He sailed to many ports in the Keys, Caribbean and Central and South America. He took time away from sailing to help his daughter, Cyndi with three successful political campaigns and to spend time with his grandsons. He was the youngest of five children. Survivors include his daughter Cyndi (Henry) Stevenson of St. Augustine; brother, John Ward of Holly Hill; and grandsons: Paul Ward Stevenson and William Edward "Wes" Stevenson.
There will be a Memorial Service at Central Baptist Church in Daytona Beach at 10 am on Saturday, April 20, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: St. Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 4363, St. Augustine, Florida 32085. Craig Funeral Home, Crematory, and Memorial Park are in charge of arrangements.
